Carol Hager and her family have been at camp for over 40 years. A retired teacher, Carol has been a counselor, group leader, head counselor, and now serves as one of our Directors. "I started at Camp Lakota as a 6 year old child on July 1, 1949 and the rest is history. My passion for camp was strong from day one. My parents brought my brother and me to camp. They both worked at camp and my brother and me became 2nd generation Lakota family."
"I chose my career in education because of my love for children and camp life. I have been a camper, counselor, group leader, assistant head counselor and head counselor of boys and girls camp and finally after retiring from 30 years in education I became Director of Camp Lakota. I am happy to say that my husband Phil and my children share my passion. Today my grandchildren are 4th generation Lakota family."

Lillian Mindich, our Business Director, is a lifer. She started day camping with her mom, the little girls group leader, at 3. Lillian has an MBA from Crummer at Rollins College where she also received her bachelor's degree.
She also brings to Lakota her interest in healthy eating and environmental concern. By directing our purchasing she has been able to help the kitchen create a healthier, and still kid friendly, menu using fresh whole ingredients. She is also leading the way in creating a recycling program and using more environmentally friendly products, including cleaning products, and office supplies. Lillian is joined at camp by her son Benjamin – perhaps our youngest camper yet, starting two summers ago at 9 months old.


The Mindich Family is now watching their third generation grow up at Camp Lakota.

Doug Katz has joined the Lakota family as our newest Owner and Director. Doug, along with his wife Laura, have a lifetime history in camping and bring their passion and excitement to Camp Lakota. Doug and Laura come to Lakota after five years as Owners & Directors of Camp Na-Sho-Pa where their innovative program, sensational staff and dedication to each camper, as individuals, were the cornerstones of many wonderful summers.

Doug is a full time camp professional and has been devoted to summer camp since he began attending sleep-away camp as a seven year old. Doug has the rare distinction of being a three time Color War General. Doug is a graduate of Boston University and his favorite evening activity is Flashlight sing. Laura is a second grade teacher of nineteen years in Rockland County, NY. She has her masters in education and has won numerous school and state awards throughout her career. Laura has also been instrumental in developing school safety and emergency plans for her district. Laura is a graduate of George Washington University and her favorite evening activity is Bunk Junk.

Doug and Laura have two daughters, Jillian, 17 and Katie, 9. They are both great campers. Doug and Laura bring a love of camping to everything they do. And from their years of experience they bring to Lakota wonderful all-camp activities and programming that are essential to the magical bonding that they know takes place only at camp.
