A typical camp day blends structured activities, free time, and social experiences, giving kids a full schedule without feeling rushed. At Camp Lakota, campers move through a wide range of programming across athletics, water sports, arts, outdoor adventure, gymnastics, horseback riding, and evening events and night activities, plus specialty offerings like golf and waterskiing. Every activity is open to all skill levels, so campers are encouraged to try new things rather than stick to what they already know.
The activities that tend to stick with kids long after summer ends are the ones they never expected to love. Many campers come to Camp Lakota thinking they’ll spend most of their time on a sport they already play and leave talking about their first time on horseback, learning to waterski on Lake Masten, or discovering a passion for art.
Beyond the individual activities, camp events and night activities create shared experiences that become the stories campers retell for years. The variety matters: when kids have ten genuinely different options, they grow in ways a single-sport program can’t match.
Most activities at camp require nothing more than comfortable athletic clothing, sturdy sneakers, and a swimsuit. For specific activities like horseback riding, closed-toe shoes are important for safety.
Camp Lakota provides a detailed packing list after enrollment that covers everything you’ll need by activity, including gear that’s provided on-site so families don’t have to buy equipment they’d only use once. Visit our What to Pack page for the full breakdown.
Most summer camps offer a standard mix of sports and swimming, but Camp Lakota goes well beyond that, with activities like golf, waterskiing, horseback riding, gymnastics, and outdoor adventure alongside the full range of athletics and arts programming. The goal isn’t to specialize campers early; it’s to expose them to as many experiences as possible, welcome any skill level, and let kids discover what they’re capable of. That breadth is part of what families come back to Camp Lakota for year after year.
Yes, waterfront activities are a central part of the Camp Lakota experience. Campers have access to water sports on-site, and waterskiing is one of the most popular offerings at camp. All waterfront instructors are American Red Cross certified lifeguards, and clear safety rules are enforced at all times. Every camper also participates in the Red Cross swim program and receives a certification card.
Yes, horseback riding is one of Camp Lakota’s most popular specialty activities, and it’s available to campers of all experience levels. It’s one of the activities that surprises first-timers the most; many campers who’ve never been near a horse before discover it becomes a camp highlight. Instruction is provided, and safety is the top priority throughout.
