About Camp Lakota: 100 Years in the Catskill Mountains

Our Campus

Welcome to Camp Lakota. We’re located just 90 miles from New York City, sitting high atop the Wurtsboro Hills in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, on 200 acres of some of the most beautiful land in New York State, and centered on our magnificent Masten Lake with its sandy beaches and diverse waterfront.

For 100 years, this place has been a family tradition, and we’d love for it to become yours too.

Our campus radiates out from the original estate mansion built in the early 1900s, which now serves as our Arts & Crafts centre. It’s a reminder that Lakota’s roots run deep, and that we’ve been thoughtfully building on them ever since.

Our Community

Camp Lakota is home to approximately 380 campers, split nearly evening between boys and girls, organized into seven age-based divisions from ages 6 to 16. Most of our bunks house 8 to 10 campers and 3 counselors, which creates a close-knit social environment where making new friends comes naturally.

Our campus is fully screen-free. Without phones and devices pulling attention away, campers are genuinely present, with each other, with their counselors, and with the experience of being somewhere truly special. It’s one of the things families tell us makes the biggest difference.

As an ACA-accredited camp, our programs, facilities, and staff all meet nationally recognized standards for health, safety, and quality.

What Families Want to Know

When parents reach this page, they’re usually deciding whether Camp Lakota is the kind of place their child will feel safe, supported, and genuinely known. Our approach is straightforward: build a warm, inclusive community with strong structure, experienced staff, and room for every camper to find their place, whether they’re a natural adventurer or a first-timer who’s a little nervous about being away from home.

If you’re deciding between camps, our director Hannah is happy to talk through your child’s age, readiness, and what kind of environment will help them thrive. There’s no pressure, just an honest conversation.
